Medical Schools That Require Casper (2026-2027 Cycle)
The 43 medical programs requiring Casper in 2026-2027, verified against each school's own admissions page, plus the schools that recently dropped it.
Quick answer
For the 2026-2027 cycle we verified 43 medical programs requiring Casper: 22 US MD programs, 2 more accepting Casper or AAMC PREview, 4 US DO programs, 10 of Canada's 17 medical schools, and 5 international programs. Higher counts circulating online include Acuity's non-medical partners in nursing, PA, pharmacy, and dentistry. Requirements change every cycle, so verify on each school's admissions page before you register.
We verified 43 medical programs that require Casper for the 2026-2027 cycle: 22 US MD programs, 2 more that accept Casper or an alternative, 4 US DO programs, 10 Canadian programs, and 5 international programs. Every entry below was checked against the school's own admissions page or Acuity Insights' live program database in July 2026. Requirements change every cycle, and several widely-circulated lists are out of date, so confirm with each program before you register.
US MD Programs Requiring Casper
Casper is common among US allopathic programs but far from universal. These programs require it:
- Baylor College of Medicine (Texas)
- Boston University Chobanian & Avedisian School of Medicine (Massachusetts)
- California University of Science and Medicine (after a secondary invitation)
- Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell (New York)
- East Tennessee State University Quillen College of Medicine
- Medical College of Wisconsin
- Meharry Medical College (Tennessee)
- New York Medical College
- Quinnipiac University Frank H. Netter School of Medicine (Connecticut)
- Stony Brook University Renaissance School of Medicine (New York)
- Temple University Lewis Katz School of Medicine (Pennsylvania)
- Texas Christian University Burnett School of Medicine
- Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center Paul L. Foster School of Medicine (El Paso)
- University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine
- University of Texas Health Science Center Houston, McGovern Medical School
- University of Texas Health San Antonio, Long School of Medicine
- University of Texas Medical Branch, John Sealy School of Medicine
- University of Texas Southwestern Medical School
- University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine
- University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine
- Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine
- Wake Forest University School of Medicine (North Carolina)
Texas has the highest concentration of Casper-requiring MD programs in the country. TMDSAS publishes the authoritative Texas list, which is worth checking directly if you are applying in-state.
Programs That Accept Casper or an Alternative
Two programs require a situational judgment test but let you choose which one:
- Michigan State University College of Human Medicine requires either Casper or the AAMC PREview exam.
- Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School accepts either Casper or PREview.
If a school on your list falls into this category, our Casper vs. PREview vs. Duet comparison can help you decide which to prioritize.
Programs Commonly Listed That Do Not Require Casper
Several published lists still name programs that have dropped Casper or never required it. As of July 2026:
- Rush Medical College states that for Fall 2027 matriculation, Casper is "no longer required or recommended."
- University of Nevada Reno now requires AAMC PREview instead of Casper.
- Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine replaced its Casper section with a PREview requirement.
- Texas A&M no longer requires it and does not appear on the TMDSAS Casper list.
- Central Michigan University College of Medicine calls Casper "optional" and "not in any way required."
- Drexel University College of Medicine requires Casper for its DPMS master's and BA/BS+MD pathway programs, not the standalone MD.
- Tulane encourages Casper but reviews applications with or without it.
US DO Programs Requiring Casper
Osteopathic adoption is far narrower than most lists suggest. Acuity Insights' own program database lists four live osteopathic programs for 2026-2027:
- Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (Texas) — applies through TMDSAS, distribution deadline December 17, 2026
- Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine (New York and Montana campuses) — AACOMAS, deadline March 6, 2027
- University of Northern Colorado College of Osteopathic Medicine — AACOMAS, deadline February 23, 2027
- William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine (Mississippi) — AACOMAS, deadline February 23, 2027. Its admissions page also asks for a Duet score, though Acuity's own records list Duet as not required for this cycle; confirm with the school if you are applying.
Two programs are unclear. Arkansas College of Osteopathic Medicine does not list Casper among its requirements, but its page still carries a line stating that Duet and Snapshot are not considered, which leaves Casper's status genuinely ambiguous. Kansas College of Osteopathic Medicine encouraged rather than required Casper in 2025-2026 and no longer mentions it on its fall-2027 requirements page. Neither is currently configured in Acuity's system, so applicants cannot select them. Contact either school directly if it is on your list.
Note that Duet is being retired. Acuity's own application now carries an end-of-life banner for the product, and every DO program is listed as not requiring it for 2026-2027, which is why the William Carey mention above almost certainly reflects a page that hasn't caught up rather than a live requirement.
Canadian Medical Schools Requiring Casper
Casper is required by roughly 10 of Canada's 17 medical schools, not all of them. Several widely-cited lists are wrong on this point.
Requiring Casper: McMaster University, Queen's University, University of Saskatchewan, University of Manitoba, Dalhousie University, Memorial University of Newfoundland (which also covers UPEI campus seats), McGill University, Université de Montréal, Université de Sherbrooke, and Université Laval.
Not requiring Casper: the University of Toronto, Western University, University of British Columbia, and University of Calgary have never required it. The University of Alberta dropped it effective July 1, 2025, and the University of Ottawa has replaced it with an early-phase MMI.
On language: Sherbrooke and Laval require the French version, and Laval explicitly rejects English results. McGill is English-taught and lets you choose either language. Université de Montréal accepts either, with French mandatory only for international medical graduates.
Canadian deadlines vary widely and some fall much earlier than applicants expect. Dalhousie and Memorial's last accepted sitting is August 27, 2026, with Memorial requiring scores released by September 24. Saskatchewan's last test date is September 10, 2026. Manitoba sits in mid-October and Laval distributes into November. Do not assume the October 1 OMSAS application deadline is also your Casper deadline; McMaster explicitly allows you to write Casper after it. Check your program's own cutoff and work backward using our Casper test dates guide.
International Medical Schools Requiring Casper
Australia is where Casper carries the most weight in admissions:
- University of Wollongong — a hard eligibility gate: applicants without a valid Casper score are not considered regardless of how competitive they are. The last domestic sitting for this cycle was June 11, 2026
- Curtin University (MBBS) — required of domestic applicants across all pathways; international applicants take neither Casper nor the UCAT
- University of Notre Dame Australia — 30% of the ranking formula (GAMSAT 30 : GPA 30 : Casper 30 : bonus 10), at both the Fremantle and Sydney campuses
All three drop Casper at the offer stage, so it matters for getting an interview rather than for the final decision. Indigenous applicants are exempt at Curtin and Wollongong.
United Kingdom: Casper is rare but not absent. Kent and Medway Medical School requires it for graduate applicants and those with Scottish, Welsh, Northern Irish, or international qualifications, and ranks candidates on it. Worcester's Three Counties Medical School requires it of all shortlisted graduate-entry applicants. Health Education England ran an optional pilot at several schools through the 2023-24 cycle; no evaluation has been published.
Caribbean schools including American University of the Caribbean, Ross, and St. George's do not require Casper.
How to Confirm Your Own List
Requirements shift every cycle, so treat any published list, including this one, as a starting point:
- Check each program's admissions page for "Casper," "Acuity," or "situational judgment test."
- Confirm the exact test type your program needs. United States Casper, Canada Casper in English, Canada Casper in French, and Australia Casper are separate registrations, and a mismatch means your score never reaches the school. See our Casper overview for how test types work.
- Note the program's final accepted test date, which is often much earlier than the application deadline.
- Cross-check on Acuity's Dates and Fees tool, where selecting your specific programs shows exactly which assessments and deadlines apply to you.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many medical schools require Casper?
We verified 43 medical programs for the 2026-2027 cycle: 22 US MD programs requiring it outright, 2 accepting it as one of two options, 4 US DO programs, 10 Canadian programs, and 5 international programs. Higher figures circulating online usually count Acuity's non-medical partner programs in nursing, physician assistant, pharmacy, dentistry, and veterinary medicine.
Do all Canadian medical schools require Casper?
No. About 10 of Canada's 17 medical schools require it. Toronto, Western, UBC, and Calgary never have; Alberta dropped it in July 2025 and Ottawa replaced it with an early MMI.
What's the difference between Casper and PREview for medical school?
Casper uses open-ended typed and video responses scored by trained raters; PREview is a multiple-choice test scored by the AAMC. A small number of schools accept either. See our full comparison.
When do medical schools require Casper to be completed by?
Deadlines are program-specific and often land well before the application deadline. They range from late August 2026 for Dalhousie and Memorial through March 2027 for some osteopathic programs. Check each school directly rather than assuming a common date.
Can I use one Casper score for multiple schools?
Yes, as long as every school accepts the same test type. You can add schools to your distribution list after testing, provided you add them before that program's distribution deadline.
The Bottom Line
Casper requirements are program-specific and change every cycle, and a striking number of published lists are out of date in both directions, naming schools that dropped it and omitting schools that added it. Verify each program on your own list against its admissions page, then lock in a test date using the Casper calendar and start preparing with the practice scenarios.
